Have a Feel-Good Holiday this Year

Sleigh bells are ringing, snow is glistening, and you’re all about that walk through a winter wonderland. But along with the joy of these seasonal outdoor elements comes the stress of holiday shopping, party hopping and family gathering. We say, no need to be gloomy when there’s merriness to be found. Here, ways to relax and rejoice, while respecting the green (both the Earth and your loot).

Blushing beautifully: A recipe for cherubic cheeks

This morning I was getting ready for my day with a simple, clean daytime look and, even in my enormous collection of blushes and cheek tints, that I didn’t have that “just right” color to set off my clean eye makeup including simple almost-black liquid liner, perfectly groomed brows and neutral lids.

Well I found the right color — Face Atlier’s Perfect Blush in Pink Satin — but in a powder, which, for me, don’t last through the day. In fact, I’m lucky to make it to lunch without looking sallow and sad. To top it off, I’m one of those people who doesn’t like to touch-up.

My solution: craft my own long-lasting cheek tint!

Into the lid of a leftover mineral makeup sample (I get lots of those), I added about 1/8 teaspoon of plain glycerine. Then, using a sterilized metal nail file, I scraped a little of my lovely Face Atelier blush into the glyercine. If I was to guess, I’d say I all in all, I ended up with a little over a “dash” of blush powder. BTW, in cooking terms a dash is a little more than 1/16 teaspoon and less than 1/8.

What’s the Opposite of Oscar?

…that’s the nature of the world of beauty, fashion, and yes, even movies and Hollywood. In fact, Hollywood is one of the biggest “homage-payers,” or offenders, whichever way you want to look at it. The old saying, “everything old is new again” rings true year after year, collection after collection, movie after movie.

Halston is back

From neon brights (see also Michael Kors) and cashmere-blend wool suiting to heavy black eye-liner and heavy black tights, the catwalk at NY fashion week was screaming, screeching and slithering with styles borrowed from the decade that did much of the same, the 1980s.
